Make a Nuno Felt Scarf

Description: In this class students will be introduced to the technique of nuno felting; a wet felting process that involves felting wool into silk or another natural fabric. Nuno felting is an extremely versatile medium that can be used to make accessories, wall hangings, vessels etc. Participants will design and make their own scarves and will leave with a beautiful piece of art-to-wear. Participants need to be able to stand for several hours.

Materials students should bring:

2 pieces bubble wrap, 24”x142”
2 pieces .5 -.7 mil painter’s plastic 24” X 140”
2-4 towels
Plastic bucket, capacity of about 1 gallon
Plastic bottle with little holes on the cap or ball brause (can be found online at felting suppliers) or small garden pump sprayer (can be found at Home Depot)
Small bottle of plain natural dish soap
3-4 pantyhose legs
2 pool noodles at least 28” long
Scissors
Tape measure
Measuring spoons
Notebook
Pencil
2 Plastic garbage bags or waterproof containers (to bring home wet materials)
Bring food and drinks or plan to get something across the street. We will have a short lunch break.

Materials instructor will provide:

Silk habotai or chiffon material dyed and sized to make a scarf Superfine merino wool
Silk scraps and silk roving for embellishment, Bed risers for tables, Measuring spoon
